Canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM review

February 7, 2019

First of all, there’s nothing I can really say about the brilliant
Canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before. I’d just like to add my thoughts.

I bought this lens from Camera Jungle after days of deliberating. The lens was used but in mint condition and came with a 12 month warranty. The customer service from Camera Jungle was spot on, the lens arrived exactly when they said it would and it was exactly as described. I can’t wait to use them again.

Straight out of the box, you can feel the quality - it’s lighter than I was expecting, also the zoom and focus rings feel robust and smooth.

As I’ll be using lens for animal portraits, which involves me being led on uneven ground, in the mud a lot, IS was a huge must-have!
The IS on the Canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM is amazing, with the added bonus of having a mode just for panning.

The other really, very impressive thing about this lens is the speed of the AF - it’s lightening fast! Below is a set of images with the capture time ranging from 11:38:42am to 11:38:43am, all four shots taken in a little over a second in a single run and as you can see the focus is exactly where I need it to be every time.

As well as animal portraits, this lens will be used for Event photography and I had the perfect chance to try it out at a dance show. It performed just as well under the stage lights as it did in the woods.

Lightweight, bright, fast, super sharp, reliable, easy and a real pleasure to use. I can’t wait to push this lens to see what it’s really capable of.

 Thanks for reading!
